(3.6 × 15 + 3.8 × 16 + 3.4 × 15) ÷ 46 = 3.60. Percentage uses CGPA ÷ 4 × 100 — check your institution’s own conversion.
About CGPA
Cumulative grade point average combines every semester into one number. Because semesters carry different credit loads, it is a weighted mean rather than a simple average of semester GPAs: a 16-credit semester counts more than a 12-credit one.
Formula: CGPA = Σ (semester GPA × semester credits) ÷ Σ semester credits.
Percentage conversions are not standardised. Many Indian universities use percentage = CGPA × 9.5 on a 10-point scale; for a 4.0 scale a common approximation is CGPA ÷ 4 × 100. The calculator shows these as a guide only — use the conversion your institution publishes for transcripts and applications.
Common questions
- How is CGPA calculated?
- Multiply each semester's GPA by its credits, add those products up, then divide by the total credits. Semesters with more credits count for more.
- How do I convert CGPA to percentage?
- There is no universal rule. Many Indian universities use percentage = CGPA x 9.5 on a 10-point scale; on a 4.0 scale a common approximation is (CGPA / 4) x 100. Check your institution's published conversion.
