About Grade
A weighted grade reflects that not every assignment counts the same. Each score is multiplied by its weight, the products are added up, and the total is divided by the sum of the weights you've entered — so it works whether the weights add to 100 or you only know a few of them so far.
Formula: current grade = Σ (score × weight) ÷ Σ weight.
What you need on the final: if the final is worth w of the course, then final grade = current × (1 − w) + final score × w. Rearranged, the score you need is (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w. The calculator tells you when a target is already locked in, or when it would take more than 100%.
Common questions
- How is a weighted grade calculated?
- Multiply each assignment's score by its weight, add those together, then divide by the sum of the weights. A 90% on something worth 40% counts more than a 90% on something worth 10%.
- How do I work out what I need on the final?
- Take your target grade, subtract the weighted contribution of everything you've already done, and divide by the final's weight. The calculator does this for you and tells you if the target is out of reach.
