About Tip
A tip is a percentage of the bill added for service. The calculator works out the tip, the new total and — if you're splitting — what each person owes, with an option to round every share up to a whole dollar so nobody is hunting for coins.
Formula: tip = bill × percentage ÷ 100; total = bill + tip; per person = total ÷ number of people.
Norms vary by country. In the US, 15–20% is standard for table service and 20% is increasingly the default; in much of Europe and Asia a service charge is often included and 5–10% or rounding up is typical. Tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is the traditional convention; tipping on the full total is simpler and a little more generous.
